Change is on the horizon for the Canadian Wheat Board, as legislation to dismantle the CWB's marketing monopoly has been tabled in the House of Commons.

The CWB will go through a five year transition period if the new legislation is passed, as Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz explains.

The bill is expected to be passed by the end of the year, and once it receives royal assent, the board's ten farmer-elected directors will be dropped, and control will be turned over to the five government-appointed directors.

The changes are set to take effect at the start of the crop year next August.
