Kids were able to build and create whatever they imagined, or at least, what they could with Legos, on Friday as the Swift Current Branch Library hosted a Lego Build Fest as part of Family Fun Week in the city.

The event saw over 20 kids get together and build creations out of Lego's for the fifth out of six events scheduled by the City of Swift Current for the week.

Tekeyla Friday, the children's program coordinator for the Swift Current Branch Library said that the event went great as they had a lot of kids.

Friday said that they chose to put on the Legio Build Fest because it's fun for the kids and it also teaches them while their away from school.

"What we like to see is the kids kind of coming together and working together, and being very creative in what their creating and building," she explained. "I like the Lego because I think it teaches the child to create and think outside of the box as well as it teaches skills and engineering and things like that."

Friday added that the event wasn't just an opportunity for the kids to have fun and learn, but also a chance to make new friends.

"It gets the kids socializing with other kids from other schools because quite often when you go to another school, sometimes you don't meet kids from other schools," she said. "It kind of gets them kind of integrated and socializing and meeting different people. They have an opportunity to meet and work with other kids and socialize as well."

Friday added that the library usually does the Lego Build Fest twice a year, but since the kids enjoyed it so much and were asking for another one, they might have to host a few more.
