Weyburn's Aidan Roy finished fourth of the four candidates in the Swift Current byelection, but sees the experience as a building block for future campaigns.

Running for the Saskatchewan Liberals, the 20 year old had 1 per cent of votes, behind the Saskatchewan Party's Everett Hindley (73.4 per cent), the NDP's Stefan Rumpel (24.2), and the Green Party's Maria Lewans (1.3). Voter turnout was at 42.1 per cent.

"It was expected from the beginning that this would be a strong Sask Party riding - especially since Brad Wall was the original MLA for the riding," Roy said this morning. "So it was predicted on our end."

Roy said his party had a hard time getting organized for door-to-door knocking in the city.

He wants to run in Weyburn for the 2020 provincial byelection.

"Absolutely it's a building block," Roy said. "This is the first of many elections I'm going to be running in in the future. I know I'm going to run again. I would say that I don't regret this election by any means. It was an excellent experience, and I learned a lot from it."

Next Roy plans on watching for the provincial budget - the first under new Premier Scott Moe - which is slated to come out April 10.
