After losing government in the 2007 election, the Saskatchewan New Democrats are looking to regain ground in the 2011 election campaign over this next month.

NDP Leader Dwain Lingenfelter will be running in the riding of Regina-Douglas Park, but has a southwest connection, living most of his life in the Shaunavon area.

He says growing up, it would have been difficult to imagine running for Premier of Saskatchewan, saying it's a bit of a dream come true for someone from rural southwest Saskatchewan, and at that time if someone had told him that he'd have a shot at becoming Premier, he wouldn't have believed him.

Lingenfelter says they plan to address a number of topics of interest for those in the southwest, including the dismantling of the Canadian Wheat Board, as well as health and education issues. His party is also planning changes to resource royalties in the province, as well as help for affordable housing, including rent controls.
