The Southwest Literacy committee has organized some activities to recognize International Literacy Day on September 8th.

They're holding a discussion on how authors promote peace through their work. It is scheduled for 7pm in the Library.

The committee is also inviting anyone in the community to stop by the library or Newcommer Welcome Centre throughout the day to enter into a draw for an electric reader.

"People with low literacy levels often suffer from poverty and isolation," said committee member Bula Ghosh.

"Carry on reading, learning and encourage others to be lifelong learners."
