A local Swift Current resident was recently seen on the big screen in a Hallmark Holiday Movie.

Sean Savoy made his on-screen debut in the Hallmark movie" Never Kiss A Man In A Christmas Sweater"

Savoy says his parents are the ones who instilled in him a love for movies. If he ever had a question his father would provide an answer and then show him how the world sees it through film.

Savoy attended the Comprehensive High School in town where he was mainly involved with the theatre which he enjoys because it allows people to tell stories and be heard, but he had a different sort of affection for film.

Savoy's life changed when he was attending the University of Saskatchewan and a successful actor named Adam Beach from Manitoba was attending to give a speech. Savoy says that to see him and hear what he had to say was eye-opening. After Beach's speech, Savoy went up to him and asked him "How do I get where you are?" From this point on the two stayed in touch and when Savoy moved to Vancouver, Beach helped him to get an agent. Beach has continued to mentor Savoy both as an actor and a man and Savoy says he would not be where he is without his help and guidance.

In the end, Savoy did not end up completing his degree at the University of Saskatchewan, he instead saw an opportunity that made sense for him and his goals and went towards it.

As he began auditioning, Savoy realized that although he thought he was prepared for the rejection part of auditions it began to take a toll on him. Eventually, after about ten or twenty auditions, Savoy had a particularly bad day after he had gotten into his own head about his physical characteristics and his voice, which he began bubbling over with insecurities. It was at this point he had a breakdown in front of his girlfriend and said "I don't know if I can do this". It was this exact same day that Savoy received an email that changed his life. He found out that he had gotten the role in a movie he auditioned for as he explains.

"I went on my phone and the first notification that popped up I thought it was an audition and I read it more in-depth and it was approved. I had got approved for this role. And it was surreal, I stared at my phone for a couple of minutes before I came outside and I just kept repeating oh my god. I kept blinking and refreshing and I swiped up on the app and opened it back up again and looked at it. I felt like I was in a dream."

Savoy says his role in the movie is small but it is his first paid acting job and a transition to film which helped to reimburse the confidence that his agent has in him.

Savoy details the role he plays in the movie.

"I play an attendant in the movie who sells her (Ashley Williams) a Christmas tree and I kind of offer "can I help you take it to your car?" and she refuses and she carries it out of the tree lot and runs right into knocking out who later turns out to be her boyfriend in the movie. It's great that I am in the scene before the two lovers meet. That's a great scene to be in in a romance movie."

Being on the set of the movie was wonderful and everyone was very comforting according to Savoy.

After he shot his scene Savoy says the director came up to him and said "Sean great working with you. Good job doing it in one take, I love actors who do it in one take don't lose that" and Savoy replied, "I didn't know I had a choice."

During the filming process, Savoy says he found himself treating the set as a theatre with the set as his stage and the people behind the cameras as his audience members.

Although this was his first movie role, Savoy has been actively auditioning since living in Vancouver and has auditioned for a number of T.V  shows including Riverdale, The Flash and he also auditioned to be a regular on an NBC sitcom.

Now that he has finished filming the movie Savoy says he plans to continue auditioning and is also actively taking up a number of hobbies.

In terms of upcoming projects, Savoy's girlfriend is an aspiring screenwriter and will be filming a short film in Saskatchewan next summer which she has offered Savoy an audition for. Savoy says that he finds this humbling as she could easily hand him the role but it's nice to know that she has integrity in her art. Savoy adds that the biggest disservice he could do is to force himself into a role that he clearly doesn't belong in.

Growing up in the midwest Savoy says provides you with a humbling attitude where you take compliments and promises made like water off a duck back. He says that he sees the faces of those he grew up with when he is asked questions in interviews and he reflects on how he can conduct himself in the best interest of Swift Current.

Savoy adds that he is fortunate to come from a small town as he received the community experience which helps to set him apart and gives him a different life perspective.
