The annual Scouts bottle drive held yesterday saw truckloads of bottles recycled, all to give kids the opportunity to be kids.

The Scouts and their parents were present at their impromptu bottle depot set up in the car bay of Kevin's Ultimate Auto Detail shop, helping raise money.

In addition to people delivering bottles to the shop, members the Scouts organization were out collecting bottles.

Around 109 Scouts and Cadets volunteered to both sort bottles and go door to door asking for bottles.

Amanda Bussiere, a scouter for Cubs, said that this year everything was going along smoothly.

"Actually this year we have been very efficient, we have been keeping up, the workflow has been good, the kids are out there collecting bottles despite the weather, it's been fantastic."

SARCAN bottle depot was also involved with the event, with bottle donations able to be made through the new Drop & Go program, allowing people to make donations that will be deposited into the Scouts account from SARCAN.

The funds from the bottle drive will be primarily used to finance the Scouts program for camp and other outdoor activities.

Bussiere later said that not only are fundraising events like this one good to raise funds, they also raise the level of responsibility a youth has.

"These kids want to go on different adventures, they want to go on different trips, and they have to learn you have to work for want to do. Right? So it's teaching them responsibility and you have to work for what you want to get so its great, and it's teaching them to work as a team too."
