A couple of southwest businesses took home hardware at the Saskatchewan Tourism Awards of Excellence last week.

The Reno Rodeo in Consul won the Event of the Year Award.

"We were pretty excited," said Rodeo President Doug Richards, "It means a lot for us and for our rodeo and for our hard work and everything. It's great to be recognized."

Richards believes they may have won because of their contributions to the community.

"A lot of our proceeds that we make here at the rodeo goes back to either charity or community things," Richards said. "Like our rink board, playground, play school..."

Cypress Hills Eco-Adventures won for Rookie of the Year.

President, CEO and founder of Cypress Hills Eco Adventures Jory Kirk saw the awards gala itself a a great opportunity to learn.

"Just being able to brush shoulders with those people who have been 10 years in, 5 years in," Kirk said. "That are going hard and know some of those little tricks that you don't know. They're very willing to pass some of those things on to you and give you advice. It's a really supportive group this industry."

Kirk was very pleased to receive the honour.

"It really puts it into perspective that your'e doing things right."

Though they didn't win, Redmond House in Maple Creek was honoured as a finalist for the Business of the Year Award.
