The 2010 provincial highways and infrastructure budget is one of the biggest on record, and that means there will once again be plenty of road construction projects happening throughout the southwest.

Highways and Infrastructure Minister Jim Reiter says this year will see the long-awaited completion of repairs to Highway 32.  He says that has been a long-standing concern for people in that area, and they will be happy to have it finished this year.

Also planned for upgrades are 34km of paving on Highway 13 between Shaunavon and Eastend, and the addition of a truck-climbing lane on Highway 4 south at Saskatchewan Landing.  Reiter says anyone familiar with the area knows it's long overdue, with the amount of truck traffic in the area, and the steep incline in the south river hills.

Reiter adds, more paving projects on Highway 13,  and paving on Highway 1 in the Rush Lake and Piapot areas are also planned this year, as well as some bridge and culvert work.  He adds, the City of Swift Current will also continue the Highway 1 and 4 Interchange project, which is expected to be complete by the fall.
