It was an afternoon spent on the ice, instead of in the classroom for the high school students from the Maple Creek Comprehensive High School on Friday

Students from Grades 8 to 12 competed in the annual Telemiracle hockey game that's been hosted by the school for over 30 years to raise money to go towards the charity.

Tracy Walkow, a teacher at the high school, said that the game went great as they were able to raise $1,200.

"We had lots of kids and a lot of participants, and lots of community members come out and support," she said. "Enrollment was down a little bit this year, but it was lots of fun with lots of enthusiasm for the Telemiracle game."

Walkow said that the game serves a little more importance as the school has a student that has benefited from Telemiracle.

"It's our way of giving back to Telemiracle," she said, "We know that they help out a lot. We have a student in our school that is in a wheelchair and has benefited from the Kinsman at some point. We always encourage the kids to help because it's for kids like the one student that we have in our school."

The hockey games saw the Grade eights and nines students compete in the first game with Grade tens to twelves to follow.

The afternoon wasn't filled with just hockey as some Olympic events were added.

"Throughout the day we incorporate different Olympic events," Walkow said. "We did figure staking, bobsledding, and a couple of others."

It wasn't just the students who were involved in the game as some teachers strapped on the pads and played goalie.

Walkow added that they though the didn't keep score for the games, she marked it up as a win for Telemiracle.
