The Town of Maple Creek was honoured with two awards at the Saskatchewan Municipal Awards in Regina over the weekend.

"We won Economic Development Leadership and Heritage Conservation Leadership, and both of those awards were linked to our Main Street revitalization program that we're working on in Maple Creek at the moment," said Maple Creek Main Street Program Coordinator, Royce Pettyjohn. "I think that these awards reinforce that we are on the right track in what it is that we're doing, and it gives us the enthusiasm that we need to build upon our past successes and move forward with new accomplishments."

The project started back in 2009 with the designation of the Maple Creek Heritage District. "Within the heritage district, there has been a number of building rehabilitation projects that have been going on," Pettyjohn added, "and as part of the Main Street Program, part of it is tourism development."

Pettyjohn adds that they are currently working on the restoration of the Old Timers Museum building.
