For the second consecutive month the unemployment rate in Swift Current/Moose Jaw is on the rise.

It moved from 4.4% in February to 4.7% in March. It's also up from 4.3% a year ago.

The labour force dropped again by 500 people from February to March. It's down 4000 people from this time last year.

There were also 600 fewer people working in our region from February to March. The number of jobs dropped from 50,700 last year to 46,800 last month.

In Saskatchewan as a whole there are almost 5000 more jobs year over year. However, the unemployment rate in the province went up from 5.1% in February to 5.2% in March. It's still significantly ahead of the 7.8% national unemployment rate.
