Maverick High School in Swift Current held the White Ribbon Campaign to prevent men's violence against women.

Male staff as well as students from Maverick and some other schools have been donning the white ribbons - something that originated in Canada after the 1989 École Polytechnique shooting in Montreal.

"It's a focus on men's violence against women, so us male teachers definitely have developed a real passion towards this because we think it's something very important and something that needs to be changed," said Maverick teacher Tanner Lange.

Lange also said the #MeToo campaign came up.

"When you hear of abuse you think of things that are physical, but we went into the different kinds of abuse - and people abusing power over others. And that's kind of where we got into those discussions a little bit about what's been going on in the media. And then you look at guys like Harvey Weinstein and Louis CK and Brett Ratner and I could go on and on, but those are all classic examples of guys using their position and using their power to get what they wanted."

Lange said they started making ribbons in mid November and he was wearing his through to Friday.

The campaign is something the school plans on keeping going in the future as well.
