Maverick School

Maverick School's 8th Annual Coffeehouse and Art Auction goes tonight and tomorrow at the Lyric Theatre.

"It's tonight, Wednesday, doors open at 7, show starts at 8, and again on Thursday night we'll be doing the same preformance for our corporate sponsers," said organizer Jane Nicholson. "We have artwork for auction. photography, acrylic painting on canvas as well as wood canvas, ceramic art, we have stained glass."

Art is contributed by the students at Maverick as well as professionals. The art will be on display throughout the building for the silent and live auctions.

"This year our students have elected to choose one of their special live auction items and have all of the proceeds go towards the "Five Days For Change Project" That's the group started at the comprehensive high school who are trying to have a shelter built in the city for youth. The piece they've selected is very special, it's a very large stained glass piece and actually it has a piece of glass contributed by every student in our school," said Nicholson.

She says that the auction will be successful because the art is so great, and partly because of the great auctioneer.

"The auctioneer is Skip Neufeld. Skip's been coming to our coffeehouse for the past eight years he's energetic, he usually knows our crowd and he's very entertaining," said Nicholson.

Tickets are still available at Pharmasave and Maverick School for tonight's event, Thursday is sold out.

Tickets are $25 each and Nicholson reminds everybody to get them soon, before they sell out as well.
