The creative talents of Maverick High School students are on display at the Lyric Theatre in Swift Current.

"Through Our Eyes" is the 9th annual coffeehouse with student performances, along with a silent and live auction of student artwork.

"I think for the students, it's a chance to showcase their skills and talents to our Swift Current community," said Jayne Nicholson, the principle of Maverick High School. "It brings the community and all of our corporate sponsors and families together at one event  to really celebrate who they are as creative individuals, and just so the community knows that great things are happening at Maverick."

After a successful event last night, Maverick students perform again this evening to a sold-out crowd. Students produced stained-glass mosaics with local artist, Marsha Schuld. They also made textured acyclic painting paintings, photography, and pottery made with the help of Wendy Parsons an Zachh Dietrich from Moose Jaw.  In addition to the artwork, students will be performing music with help from teachers, Eliza Doyle and Al Hudec. Finally, tonight's audience can expect monologues and soliloquies from students, produced with the help of the Globe Theatre in Regina.

"It's real confidence booster for the students, as well as a real team building event for us," Nicholson said. "Of course they're nerves, lots of nerves and they're always cheering each other on. It really builds a lot of school spirit."

The coffeehouse was supported by over 35 corporate sponsors and the money raised at the event supports Maverick programs.
