As the Swift Current Broncos prepare for a key three game stretch this week, the City of Swift Current is showing their support for the local WHL club.

Earlier Monday morning Swift Current Mayor Denis Perrault spoke at the Credit Union iPlex, encouraging fans to come out and cheer on the team.

"I think if you haven’t come to the rink yet this year, this is the week to come. Come down to the Stable, pick up your tickets, I know you’ll be impressed," Perrault said.

The Broncos, who currently sit third in the East Division, have declared this week 'Bronco Week' as they will welcome three of the WHL's best teams to the iPlex.

Swift Current will play host to the East leading Regina Pats on Wednesday before hosting the Central leading Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday and the Everett Silvertips on Saturday.

Wearing his Throwback green and yellow Broncos jersey, the Mayor said now is the time to get behind the team as they make to push towards the playoffs.

"It is an exciting team and it is fun to watch. It’s fun to come and rally behind the home team. We are going to see a great week this week and I really encourage you to come out if you can," he said.

Perrault himself has been enjoying quite a few games this year.

"I love coming to the rink and coming to the Bronco games with my little guy and my wife," he said.

"I know that everyone else that hasn’t been out here yet this year would feel the same way."

As much fun as it is for the newly-elected Mayor to come out and watch the games, he also understands the business aspect for the Broncos and that fan support is not just cheering on the team, but also to help support them financially.

"This is the smallest market in the CHL and that is something we are proud of and something we celebrate," he said.

"Broncos hockey means a lot, not just to our community, but to the surrounding area. It means economic opportunities when we see people come in to the rink to come for a meal, possibly even to stay a night. But outside of that, it’s a sense of pride."

As of Monday, Swift Current sits five points back of the Moose Jaw Warriors for second place in the East Division, with two games in hand.

All three Broncos home games this week will get underway at 7:00pm.
