Schafercouncil 2015
Mayor Schafer took the time to address the recent recycling controversy

The City of Swift Current was forced to defend its recycling program when a picture was posted to social media showing a recycling truck leaving the landfill.

Many residents assumed the city was dumping its paper and cardboard in the landfill, however the city assured residents that the trucks were at the landfill to be weighed before being sent to the  Triways' recycling facility on South Railway Street.

Mayor Jerrod Schafer says it was unfortunate that so many people were misinformed but reminds the public they can always contact the city for clarification.

"We just have to make sure everyone is aware of the facts, and we have seen a good example of that over the past couple of days, where sometimes the facts are pretty important before people jump to too many conclusions," he said.

Schafer also added the city is happy to respond to concerns that residents may have.

"The good thing is people can ask questions and share concerns. The conclusion jumping when people are not aware of the facts or the city has not had a chance to respond is the unfortunate part, however, the right information is out now and we'll see what happens from there," he said.

Starting next month, Mayor Schafer and Golden West Radio will present Mayor in the Morning, a public engagement initiative to respond to questions and concerns in the community.
