Jackie Powell and Jayci Wittmier will both have a distinct honour when the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay stops in Swift Current on February 13th.
They were named two local difference makers who will carry the Rick Hansen Medal for the relay before it stops at the Credit Union iplex that day. Jackie is a long-time volunteer and Special Olympics Swimming Coach, while Jayci has had a remarkable recovery from a spinal cord injury she suffered in a car accident on her 16th birthday in 2009.

Eighteen medal bearers, including Jackie and Jayci, will carry the Rick Hansen medal through Swift Current from OM Irwin School to the iplex on February 13th. Jackie's leg of the relay starts from Central School, while Jayci will be the final medal bearer of the day, carrying it from the corner of 18th Ave NE and Chaplin Street to the iplex, where the celebration begins at 4:30pm.

The next day, the relay will continue with a kick-off celebration at 11:30pm from Ashley Park School, and 14 more medal bearers will run a route from Ashley Park to St. Pat's School, where the relay will continue westward.
