Government Relations Minister, Lori Carr, paid a visit to Shaunavon yesterday, October 7, to formally announce that The Ministry of Government Relations is investing more than $8.3 million in combined provincial funding towards a pair of infrastructure projects in the southwest.

Once completed, these projects will improve drinking water for residents of Shaunavon, Cabri and other communities in the region.

The more than $1 million Shaunavon project will include the installation of a UV reactor system in four wells (wells 1,2,9, and 10), four new pump buildings, rehabilitation of four wells, along with related works.

Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2020 with the project target to be completed and fully operational later that same year.

The Government of Canada is contributing $410,400 towards the Shaunavon project with the Government of Saskatchewan contributing $341,966.

The Southwest Regional Potable Water Supply System Project will construct a new water treatment plant, a new 139 kilometer regional water pipeline system, a river intake and pump station from The South Saskatchewan River, two new booster stations, and will establish connection points for delivery to  various communities. The $24 million project is a partnership between the villages of Lancer, Pennant, Abbey, Success,  Hazlet and Cabri.

The Federal Government is contributing $9.6 millions towards the Cabri project and The Provincial Government is contributing more than $7.9 million.

Funding recipients are responsible for additional project costs.

Minister Carr said, "It truly illustrates that when all levels of government and communities work together towards a common goal, infrastructure funding goes farther and projects like these are no longer simply  a dream or a vision."
