Maple Creek residents got a first look at their new healthcare facility this week.

The Cypress Health Region had mock-ups of some of the acute care and long-term care rooms of the new Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility at the Maple Creek Armouries on Thursday and Friday.

"Our local staff put them all together and they did a great job of virtually displaying what the rooms would look like," said Capital Project Lead Brenda Schwan. "They're all to actual size, they have the actual equipment that will be housed in these rooms and the floor plans outside of it, and visuals of what the interior of the rooms will look like."

Schwan adds the event also helped build more excitement in the community for the project: "This project is going ahead, it is making progress and it is going to happen, and you can feel that excitement in the room."

Detailed design for the project was recently completed, and the Health Region is now working on the "50 per cent" drawings for the construction documents.

The new facility is expected to open in early-2014.
