Going against the recent trend, the size of the labour force and number of jobs in Swift Current/Moose Jaw both moved up in the last month.

The labour force is up by 1800 and the number of jobs is up by 1600 from March to April.

There are now 48,400 people working in the region.

The labour force is still 2100 people smaller than it was a year ago, and there are 2300 fewer people working than at this time last year.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate has climbed steadily from 4.2% last year to 4.7% in March and 5.1% last month.

The unemployment rate province-wide is up slightly from 5.2% in March to 5.3% in April, but the province gamed 4100 jobs.

The Canadian unemployment rate is down from 8.1% last year to 7.8% in March and 7.6% in April.
