For the third year, people gathered in Elmwood Park on Saturday to participate in the annual Mother Earth Walk and Run.

This year's event featured 73 participants competing in the 1k, 2k, 5k, or 10k walk and run.

Stephanie Prpick-Boss is the race director and organizer of the event and said it was once again a success.

"The run went fantastic this year. The energy was so positive, and the weather was definitely on our side," she said. "The support we receive is just a reflection of Swift Current and the motto 'Where life makes sense.' The community here is fantastic, and we see great support."

Prpick-Boss said that raising awareness about taking care of Earth is the main goal of the event.

"The event is to highlight and enjoy the outdoors, to get out and be active," she said. "One of the main aspects is to focus on environmental stewardship. Protect Mother Earth, protect our parks, and just be more aware."

She noted that they moved the event back two weeks to coincide with the Mother's Day Weekend.

“It was a good thing that we moved it two weeks later because we were in a snowstorm and at different times parts of the chinook pathway, the water levels were high so holding it today worked out perfectly.”

Prpick-Boss added that everyone who crossed the finish line received finishing peddles as not only a way to bring their carbon footprint down but also as a Mother's Day present.

In addition to the environmental factor, Prpick-Boss says they donate partial proceeds to Southwest Homes to help highlight their residential and small business recycling program.
