NDP Leadership Candidate Visits Swift Current

Federal N-D-P leadership candidate Niki Ashton made her pitch in Swift Current last night.

But why make a stop where life makes sense?

“I felt it was very important to bring out campaign to Swift Current," Ashton said. "A community that's really been part of building Saskatchewan, a community like many communities in the praires that is living a reality that I believe that we need to be talking about at the national level”

Despite electing a majority of Conservative MPs throughout the prairies, Ashton doesn't believe the party has represented our interests.

“Well for me ultimately about...how the Conservative Government isn't listening to the prairies in general not just one community or the other but more broadly all of us whether it's on the future of agriculture, whether it's on oil and gas, whether it's on the need to support health care.”

Ashton has been visiting places like Swift Current and Medicine Hat in hopes of drumming up support for a campaign that hasn't made the same headlines some of her rivals have.

She is proud to be the only NDP MP elected in a rural prairie riding.

The vote for a new NDP leader goes March 24th.
