Dwain Lingenfelter, seen here speaking at an event in Swift Current last year, resigned as leader of the Saskatchewan New Democrats on November 7th.

The Saskatchewan New Democrats will take the first step this weekend towards dusting themselves off from their Provincial Election loss earlier this month.

On Saturday, the NDP will elect an Acting Leader after both leader Dwain Lingenfelter and deputy leader Deb Higgins failed to get re-elected on November 7th.

"It's our Provincial Council that gets together, that's a couple of representives from each riding around the province and they get together with the elected member of the NDP caucus and together they elect an Acting Leader whenever there is a vacancy to fill that role until we can choose a new leader," said Tim Williams, NDP Director of Communications.

"There's no particular rule about who it has to be, it can be any member in good standing with the party," added Williams.

"The people who are more likely to put their names forward are people who are in the caucus because the next big thing coming up is the fall session of course and it would be more convienent to have leader from within the caucus."

The NDP saw their seat total fall from 20 to 9 after a Saskatchewan Party domination.  We should know who the acting leader is sometime Saturday afternoon.
