This past summer will certainly go down as one of the warmest in recent memory, and for the city's Light and Power Department, it will also go down as one of their busiest.

Power demands in the month of July and August were near record numbers, falling only behind the same time frame from 2007 and 2008 respectively.

Director of Light and Power, Mitch Minken says with more air conditioners and cooling units running over the summer, they've saw a substancial increase in power usage. However upgrades to the city's power grid in recent years have helped to keep potential problems associated with such high demand, down to a minimum.

Minken adds that in 2012, they will be continuing with those upgrades in the downtown core.
