Swift Current celebrated the long-awaited opening of Cypress Regional Hospital about four years ago, and our neighbours in Moose Jaw will see their wait for a new hospital end in about four years.

Health Minister Don McMorris announced Tuesday that the Friendly City will be getting a new hospital to replace the aging Moose Jaw Union Hospital, and that the province has committed $5 million in spending to go toward designing the new facility over the next year-and-a-half.

He explained the province is jumping in with both feet to make this facility the best it can be.

The cost of the facility is still being determined but it's estimated to cost around $100 million dollars with the City of Moose Jaw covering 20% of the final total.

Location is also up for debate and will be part of the next phase of planning.  The goal is to start construction in 2013 with the doors being opened by the end of 2015.
