The provincial government has ratified a historic land deal betwen the city and the Rural Municipality of Swift Current.

Last night at City Council, it was announced that the city is annexing two portions of RM land, located on the northeast and northwest sides, which Mayor Jerrod Schafer says will open the door to further growth. It was also indicated that the land could accomodate residential development which could push the city's population up to 25,000 residents.

Swift Current will pay the RM a one time fee of five times the taxation assesment on the land.

Schafer says he is very happy to see the continued strengthening of a once tense relationship with the RM in recent years.
