The Saskatchewan Union of Nurses and the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations have reached a tentative two-year collective agreement.

It's a renewal of a partnership agreement between SUN, the Ministry of Health, and Saskatchewan's Health Regions.

SUN president Rosalee Longmoore said there was very little change to the agreement from the previous deal, “One of the things that was really important to nurse practitioners was to have a $6.00 premium that had been afforded them last time actually applied to their wages so that it covers contributions to pention plan, they get that pay when on vacation. So that was a major achievment as far as some monetairy things other than that there is very little change to the current collective agreement.”

The deal between SUN and the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations is significant for nurses in the province, added Longmoore, “Our members priorities going into barganing were to keep what we have and so essentially done that. To work on the dilemmas of safe staffing thats one of the huge issues and we think the partnership agreement is the best way to do that of course there are still tools in our collective agreement that will assist with that as well.”

Details have not been released at this point and the contract is expected to be taken to the nine-thousand members of the nurses union for ratification by the end of May.
