With winter usually comes the return of the flu bug, but so far it's been a quiet season here in the southwest.

According to Dr. David Torr, the consulting Medical Health Officer for the Cypress Health Region there have been no confirmed cases of the flu virus in the region so far this season.

"We've had some degree of respiratory activity, but it's mostly been related to influenza... which give symptoms common to the common cold. But we haven't had any actual influenza cases," Dr Torr says.

However there have been reports of the flu bug going around in neighbouring health regions and it doesn't mean the virus won't be unheard from this year. "Much of the flu season has come a little later. It is on the horizon, we have cases in the province," says Dr. Torr. "If we do take precautions we can minimize the spread of influenza."

Those precautions includes getting your flu shot, which you can still do by making an appointment with your local Public Health Office by calling 1-866-786-2510.
