Maple Creek was home to a Canadian Cowboys Association (CCA) outdoor rodeo this past weekend, and there was a lot of talent from south-west Saskatchewan competing.

Swift Current's Blaine Switzer finished third in tie-down roping with a mark of 9.2 seconds. He and Mankota's Shawn Williamson finished just in the money for team roping, when their time of 7.1 seconds tied them for seventh.

There were 25 entries with the competitor listed as being from Maple Creek, so there was no shortage of home-grown talent either.

All results are unofficial, but hailing from Maple Creek, Jason Hofer finished second in the bareback with a 77, ahead of Brady Bertram's 76.

Adam Gilchrist finished fourth in steer wrestling (10.1 seconds) and fifth in saddle bronc, with a 74.

Tanner Jones (alongside partner Taylor Wudrich) came fifth in steer wrestling, with a time of 6.3 seconds.

And of the up-and-comers, James Perrin came third in junior steer riding with a score of 72. Sydney Windjack came third in junior girls barrel racing, with a time of 17.84 seconds. Janae Wilson finished the same circuit in fourth at 18.08 and Cassidy Gordon clocked in at fifth after a ride of 18.39.

Slim Brown - a member of the Ag Society that put on the rodeo - estimated they had around 700 people out over the weekend to take in the action out in the sun.

"We had great weather - couldn't ask for much better - and great crowds, great stock - everything bucked really good," Brown said. "Overall, very successful."

One thing that really stood out to Brown from the weekend was the wild pony racing for kids between the ages of seven and 12.

Brown said they did a calcutta with the racers, and the pot probably got to $3,000 Saturday and $4,000 Sunday.

"We were very, very happy with that. A lot of support from a lot of local people, so that was very nice to see," said Brown.

"From the Maple Creek Ag Society we'd sure like to thank all the rodeo fans and especially the sponsors for helping us put it on, and all the volunteers as we couldn't do it without them," said Brown. "It was a great success, and look forward to doing it again next year."

The Ag Society had been planning for this past weekend since January. Now that the CCA Rodeo is in the rearview mirror, there's still more rodeo action headed for Maple Creek this weekend.

It's a separate committee, but there will be the 30th Anniversary Ranch Rodeo in town on Canada Day Saturday where people can take in events that are similar to what goes on in day-to-day life on the ranch. It's more traditional, with wild cow milking, doctoring and horse catching.

Here is the complete list of unofficial results from this past weekend's CCA action in Maple Creek.
