A very Canadian cause for an unplanned power outage over the weekend in part of southwest Saskatchewan.

A beaver felled a power pole on a line between Gull Lake and Maple Creek on Saturday, May 26th.

Approximately 2500 SaskPower customers were affected by the outage, which lasted from just before 3:30 p.m. until just after midnight on Sunday morning.

"We don't see it too often where a beaver has chewed through a pole which has actually caused it to come down," she said. "But about 31% of unplanned outages are caused by nature, which is where this incident would fall under.

More common culprits behind power outages in this category are tree and bird related.
