Provincial Minister of Energy and Resources Bill Boyd

Saskatchewan produced the second most oil in the history of the province last year.

Provincial Minister of Energy and Resources Bill Boyd said there is potential for growth, “Well I think in all areas for that matter, down the lower Shaunavon around Swift Current theres a lot of activity as well. Certainly down the South East part of Saskatchewan and all the way up the West-side of the province as well theres a lot of drilling activity.”

Boyd adds if not for major flooding in the southeast last spring it could have easily been a record year, “We see very strong numbers in the second half of 2011. Particilarly coming out of the South East part Saskatchewan and the South West for that matter.”

The 157.8 million barrels was second only to the 161 million produced in 2008. That includes approximately 16 million barrels in the southwest.
