Police agencies province wide will be holding their 5th coordinated traffic blitz this week, targeting cell phones and seat belts.

SGI Manager of Media Relations Rebecca Rogoschewsky introduced Operation Hang Up, Buckle Up, “Two days, April 18th and 19th, that's Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Law enforcement officers across the province will be cracking down on drivers who are not wearing seat belts, maybe not wearing seat belts properly, as well as using handheld cellphone devices while they are driving.”

Rogoschewsky adds that fines for being caught on your cell phone can be pretty costly, “The fine is $280.00 and 4 demerit points under SGI's safe driver recognition program.” Failing to have your seat belt secured will cost you $175 and 3 demerit points.

Last month's Operation March Madness saw a total of 943 tickets issued in Saskatchewan for aggressive driving.
