It's another sign that winter is slowly winding down.

Swift Current's outdoor rinks are closed for the year.

City Parks Manager Anty Toth syas it was a unique year.

“This has been a very trying year for us. We haven't seen anything like this in our recorded numbers over the past 40 years. We're still happy with the numbers when the rinks were open.”

Toth says mild conditions prevented them from creating a strong 3 inch base when they first built the rinks.

The smaller base and warm weather caused several closures throughout the season.

Toth notes public skating is still available at the indoor rinks.
