Yesterday we heard that Shaunavon RCMP are warning people of scams regarding items people are trying to sell online.

The Swift Current Online newsroom since got a call from a man living near Outlook that said he'd been targeted by such a scam twice last month.

He said on January 17 he got a "polite" text message about an ice shack frame he had for sale on Kijiji. The message asked the man in Outlook to contact the father of 'Anne' (where the message supposedly came from, it was an Iowa number with a 563 area code), saying he'd be interested.

The man who was targeted tried calling the second number, and then texted it after receiving no response. The second number asked him to send money to pay for shipping, then that they would send the full amount of money plus a reimbursement for the shipping to him immediately after. The having-to-send-money-to-someone-buying-his-item aspect made it seem like a scam to the guy who was targeted.

Then only a few days later he received an identical text as the first one but from another Iowa number.

People are advised to not only let the newsroom know, but to contact police if this happens.
