The investigation into a reported abduction on Wednesday has resulted in two people, originally from the Meadow Lake area, being arrested in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

Around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, Meadow Lake RCMP were called out after a woman stated she had been abducted at gunpoint in Meadow Lake and then dropped off in a rural area near Barthel, Saskatchewan. She had been robbed but was not hurt. She also explained to officers there was a second victim who was still with the suspects.

The search began for the woman and the suspects, as well as the two cars they were reported to be driving, both of which were stolen.

The case then moved to Grande Prairie, as the RCMP received a call from a woman who had escaped her abductors in that city. Police were able to determine the woman was the second victim of the abductions in Meadow Lake.

The investigation, led by the RCMP’s North Battleford Provincial General Investigation Section and assisted by the Grande Prairie General Investigation Section, arrested the two suspects in Grande Prairie on Thursday.

Thirty-six-year-old Lana Aubichon and 28-year-old Janelle Chatelaine, both from Meadow Lake, were charged with two counts of using a firearm in a kidnapping, two counts of using a firearm during a robbery, one count of uttering threats and one count of possession of a weapon while prohibited to do so. Aubichon was also charged with breaching a conditional sentence order.

The two suspects will be making court appearances in Meadow Lake on September 23rd.
