Pedestrians on Highway One: Your call

What should be done about pedestrians on Highway 1 in Swift Current. The city is considering it as one of many issues in their transportation master plan.

“I'm not sure the city can fix that.”

“I don't know if you can”

“Other than a pedestrian bridge, which may cost millions of dollars, I don't know what other solution there would be.”

“It's dangerous”

“Honestly I think people will cross the highway no matter what.”

“Even if the city wanted to put a pedestrian over pass over top the number 1 it's expensive”

“The only way I could see that you would prevent more accidents is just by putting up a barrier of some kind whether it's a fence or something else. I honestly don't think there's any other way.”

A Winkler, Manitoba man died last week when he was hit by a semi while crossing the highway.
