As those who have driven through downtown Swift Current the past few days have noticed, crosswalks are receiving some patriotic attention leading up to Canada Day.

In helping brighten up the downtown core along with Saturday's parade route, red and white maple leaves have been painted in the crosswalks of intersections.

Michael Boutilier, Communications and Stakeholder Relations Coordinator with the City, explains that the recent Pride week played a part in using crosswalks as part of the celebration.

"I think crosswalks are a great way to demonstrate community spirit for big events. Whether it's Pride Week that took place a couple of weeks ago, or Canada 150, it's a really nice visual way to represent our community spirit."

The Canada 150 flag was also raised outside City Hall yesterday afternoon in place of the usual red and white Canadian flag.

Canada Day events aside from the parade are an Art Gallery of Swift Current installation, an Art Gallery of Swift Current program, The Show Window of the Southwest tradeshow which wraps up Canada Day, and the last day of the Frontier Days Fair & Rodeo
