Monday and Tuesday saw tornado action in the southwest part of Saskatchewan, and storm chaser Beth Allan was hunting down the action.

Allan, who works as a student councillor during the school year, has July and August off, which works perfectly for times like earlier this week.

She came through Swift Current, made her way south to Val Marie, stayed Monday night in Assiniboia, and hit up some storms further east by Wood Mountain as well.

She said the weather isn't the only factor dictating where storm chasers go.

"It's about looking at what the environment suggests is happening, and then looking at where you can get to and pinpointing your target from there," she said.

South of Swift Current there are places with spotty cell service, which can make it hard to find up-to-the-minute radar. Allan also said they try to avoid grid roads that could become muddy, as being stuck with a twister bearing down is far from ideal.

Five tornadoes have been confirmed between Monday and Tuesday in the southwest, plus one by south-central Wood Mountain.

"Tuesday was the day that we were expecting more significant weather, and it certainly happened the way we expected with the supercells out in front of the big line that came through," Allan said, adding that they didn't expect to get quite so much down by Wood Mountain as they did.

She came from Calgary through Swift Current south to Val Marie and later went east through Wood Mountain.

Allan said only part of where you go depends on the weather.

Allan added you don't want to be on a muddy road in case a tornado makes its way to you.

She also said spotty cell phone reception makes things challenging down there as well.

Below are a few others shots Allan captured while on her venture.
