A Pioneer Co-op employee has been suspended after making derogatory comments on social media this past weekend.

The comments made on Facebook were in relation to the trial and verdict in the case of Colton Boushie's death.

Shirley Dafoe, the human resources manager for Pioneer Co-op, confirmed the Swift Current-based company acted after being notified of the comments.

"We appreciate the concern regarding negative comments that were made on social media," she said. "We have taken action."

The employee has been suspended until the company can investigate the comments and decide if further action is required.

The Co-op also stated in a release: "we don't support or tolerate hateful speech. It’s not who we are as a co-op."
