An investigation has been launched into an incident where a man hugged and kissed a child in a Swift Current park.

Swift Current City RCMP are reporting that they received a report of the incident on Sunday around 8:00 p.m. after the act occurred around 7:30 p.m. the same day.

Police say that a ten-year-old girl and her friend were playing in a Swift Current park when an adult man began chasing youth in the park.

He then grabbed the ten-year-old girl, hugged and kissed her, and let her go.

The man has since been identified and located by RCMP.

Police have not laid any charges at this time, and say the man was in the park with his granddaughter.

RCMP say that they will not be releasing the man's name.

He has been advised to stay away from playgrounds or public parks until the police finish their ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Swift Current City RCMP.

Upon the information being released to the Chinook School Division, the organization released a reminder to parents on how to keep your children safe in the event of a similar situation.

They state that your child should inform you of where they are going, use the buddy system, talk to a trusted adult if they notice anything suspicious, and never accept an offer of a ride, gift, or job offer without a parents permission.

They say parents should remind children never to leave a playground or school grounds with a stranger.

An original version of the reminder from Chinook stated that there was an attempted child abduction at A.C.T Park, but a new version of the release changes the act to an incident involving a stranger.
