The premier of Saskatchewan was in Shaunavon yesterday at a banquet held to welcome him to the town.

The dinner held in the Greenslade Lounge at the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre on Friday night saw Premier Scott Moe, MLAs Douglas Steele, Everett Hindley, Lori Carr, and David Marit all attend the honorary banquet.

Steele said that it had been over 20 years since a premier had visited Shaunavon, but when asked if it took a lot of effort to get the premier to visit, he said no.

"No, I can't say he took a lot at all, you know, he's got a busy schedule, and we put the request in, and it wasn't long until they pencilled it in and an opportunity happened."

Steele also said that it was an honour to have the premier in the town.

"For him, as busy as an individual he is as the premier of the province to come down to the beautiful community of Shaunavon and the southwest, and participate in a supper event tonight and meet some more people, it's just a great honour."

Scott Moe said that the message of the speech that he was going to give later in the night was about thanking the community.

"The message I think will be in many ways thank you, thank you for everything the people of Shaunavon and the people of Saskatchewan do to build and grow our economy."

Speaking further on growing the economy, Moe said that Saskatchewan was thriving.

"The recipe that we have here in the province is working, it is working, we see our wealth is increasing here in the province, our economy is stronger than it was a decade ago, our population is stronger than it was a decade ago, about 160,000 more people living here in Saskatchewan."
