After waiting a year, the provincial government is keeping its promise to give Saskatchewan municipalities one per cent of the PST starting this year.

Premier Brad Wall made the announcement Monday morning to delegates at the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Convention in Saskatoon.

This means Saskatchewan communities are in for a record total revenue-sharing grant of $138.7 million this year, an increase of 105% since 2007-08.

And more money will be going to communities to help protect against possible flooding this spring, with Wall formally announcing $22 million in funding for flood prevention. The funding will go toward planning and construction of flood protection works, and testing of water supplies impacted by flooding.

The SUMA Convention continues to Wednesday.
