The countdown to Relay for Life in Swift Current is now on, and it will take place June 1st and 2nd at the Comp High School track.

Organizers were to hold a kick-off event last night, but that was cancelled due to the rainy weather. However, preparations for the relay are still going well.

"We've got 14 teams registered so far, and right now the launch is supposed to tell people "get on the ball and get your team in there!" said Roxana Fryklund, Southwest Unit Manager for the Canadian Cancer Society. "Get busy on your fundraising and let's do this right. We're trying to help people with cancer."

Fryklund says the relay will celebrate cancer survivors, and honour and remember those who lost the fight to cancer, and there will also be a caregiver ceremony, and entertainment throughout the night.

She adds that volunteers are also needed to help out at the event: "We're not expecting you to go the entire night, if you can give us an hour or two, let us know. We'll find out what you're interested in and I'm sure we can find a spot where you can help us."

If you're interested in helping out, you can call the local Canadian Cancer Society office at 773-6422.
