Saskatchewan Poet Laureate Gerald Hill will be making a return to his hometown of Herbert today as a part of Herbert's Steeplejack Festival.

Hill began his term as provincial Poet Laureate in January, a position that runs one year.

He is a two-time winner of the Saskatchewan Book Award. Previously, he has spent time at the Artist-in-Residence at Toronto's Doris McCarthy Centre. He is originally from Herbert, but now lives in Regina.

The Saskatchewan poet Laureate program began in 2000 and was the first of its kind in Canada. Hill is the sixth person to hold the title.
