Cypress Hills-Grasslands MP David Anderson

Our local Member of Parliament says he remembers the attacks of September 11, 2001 as having a major impact on everyone.

Cypress Hills-Grasslands MP David Anderson says he was visiting his wife at the Medicine Hat Hospital at the time of the attacks.

He says the consequences of that tragic day have stuck with us, changing the world's approach to travel, borders and security.

Anderson says the government has been able to protect the Canadian public so far but they have to remain vigilant, and adds our democracy is always a balance of freedom and responsibility.

The Conservative government is planning to re-introduce clauses of the federal anti-terror law that expired in 2007. The clauses were introduced after the 9/11 attacks and allow preventive detention and forced testimony.
