SGI is teaming with police around the province, including here in the southwest, to make our roads safer.

They're kicking off a two day traffic blitz called "Operation Handsfree" as police will be on the lookout for drivers who are texting and talking while driving. And the plan is to continue with different crackdowns as well.

"We're starting off this month with cell phone use, because it is such a problem. And every month we will have a diferent focus", says Kelley Brinkworth, Media Relations for SGI.

Brinkworth says there were 8500 collisions caused by distracted driving last year.
