The R.M. of Swift Current has recently been given a decent chunk of money from Saskatchewan's Municipal Economic Enhancement Program to improve some of their infrastructure.

Approval came earlier in the month to a toon of just over $277,000 for a bridge replacement on Grid 630 near Duncairn.

Frank Glenn, a councillor for the R.M. of Swift Current, said the bridge is over 40 years old.

"This bridge is getting in need of repair, we've had to reduce the weight on it to keep it safe, so it's what you call 'time' for it," he said. "Repair or replacement, we're looking at replacement."

Replacement estimates would put the cost over $1 million, meaning there's lots to still be figured out financially for the R.M., however they are appreciative of the cash from the province.

"Whatever funding we get, just helps to keep us from spending as much out of the R.M.'s taxpayers dollars sort of thing," he explained. "It's still taxpayers' dollars we know that."

The next step in the bridge replacement project is the engineering portion, which is already underway, but a date hasn't been set on the construction side of things yet.

"We'd like to do it this fall, but I think if you want to be realistic, we're probably looking at spring," he said on Wednesday morning.

This isn't the only bridge in the R.M. that's in need of repair according to Glenn, Lac Pelletier Trail's bridge is being looked into as well.
