From time to time you hear about thefts popping up around Swift Current, including vehicles and bikes.

But Swift Current City RCMP Staff Sergeant Gary Hodges said they frequently wind up with lost items that don't wind up in the hands of their owners.

"It depends what the item is," said Hodges. "If it's car keys or something like that, then nine times out of 10 we find the rightful owner, just by the fact they come in and claim them. If it's a bike a lot of times it never gets claimed."

Hodges said keys, bikes, and cellphones are the most-frequently-turned-in items.

Police hang on to things 90 days before they're returned to the owner or given to charity.
