winter driving

If you're planning on heading out on the roads today, take care and take your time.

Snow and freezing rain today made for some very poor road conditions. Swift Current Rural RCMP were not recommending travel on highways around the city, and the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure also did not recommend travel on highways north of the South Saskatchewan River, including Highway 4 north of Saskatchewan Landing. Conditions on those highways have improved somewhat and the no-travel advisory has been lifted, but there are still some icy spots and drifting snow.

Travel is also not recommended on highways in the Saskatoon and Kindersley areas, and blowing snow and icy sections have been reported in a number of areas in the province.

Traffic was tied up earlier this afternoon on Highway 1 between Webb and Beverley, after a semi went off the road and struck a power pole. The road was blocked off for a few minutes as SaskPower crews worked to string up new wire.
